Hi I'd like to change the colour of my indoor concrete dining table. I thought about spray painting the table top and then applying a matt sealer over the top. Would this method work?
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @DIYKM. It's marvellous to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about spray painting concrete.
In order to guarantee that your method would work, the products used need to be specifically designed for that purpose. There aren’t any spray paints I’m aware of that are formulated to bond properly with concrete surfaces, whether sealed or unsealed. Your table likely already has a sealer on it unless it’s very porous and absorbs water, which would affect how paint adheres. While the spray paint might physically go on, there’s no way to ensure how well it will stick or how long it will last, as it hasn’t been tested for that application. Although matte sealers can be applied over spray paint, the underlying adhesion would still be uncertain. There are concrete-specific paints on the market, but these are intended for floors or outdoor concrete and wouldn’t be food-safe for a dining surface.
For the best results, it would be worth confirming whether your table is sealed and possibly sharing a photo, as our members might be able to share some alternatives. Let me know if you need a hand uploading images.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
