Hello,
I recently completed tiling a backsplash in my kitchen that I am really happy with. The tiles were subway tiles and I learnt how to ensure all the cuts with my tile cutter worked. However I have now started on the floor which I have these big 600mm by 600mm tiles.. and I have wrecked two by them not breaking cleanly. I think it's an issue with my technique but additionally a nut and bolt fell out of the inside of my tile cutter. I want to fix my tile cutter and learn to do it properly but I am a bit stuck and think I need some advice from an expert before I break all my tiles. I would really appreciate any suggestions on what to try
Hello @hannahmg
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about tiling.
It appears that your guide roller has come off, if you still have the nut part of your assembly, I suggest re-installing it back to its original position and making sure that the assembly is put in tight. You might need a screwdriver and small adjustable wrench to re-attach it to the tile cutter.
Once the tile cutter is repaired, I suggest practicing on the broken pieces that did not get cut properly. I recommend running the scoring blade on the surface of the tile several times until you see a good channel form on the surface. Place the pushing arm close to the top and remember to push the lever down with authority. The snap needs to happen instantly and not in a slow manner. After several tries you should be able to see what works for you and how many times you need to run the scoring blade on the surface.
Please remember to wear personal protection such as gloves and goggles when cutting tiles.
If you need further assistance, please let us know.
