Kitchen cabinet paint revamp

Recent kitchen cabinet revamp.  Built the house in 2010 and these were the original laminate doors.  Repainted and added

soft close hinges.  Resprayed the original handles and all up cost less than $200!  Cheap refresh until a full reno is needed.pretty happy with the result.  Not perfect but brighter and feels fresh.

Re: kitchen cabinet painting

Hi @althomp,

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community, we are excited to have you with us.

Repainting kitchen cabinets is a simple way to give your kitchen a facelift and brighten up the room.

Your kitchen certainly shows how a coat of paint and a refresh can give it a whole new look on a relatively low budget.

Nice work and thank you for sharing.

Hi @althomp

Thanks for sharing. Your kitchen looks great!

May I ask what products you used for the paint, soft hinges etc?

Thanks

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @Beginner20. It's wonderful to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about this project.

Hopefully, @althomp will be able to share the exact products they used soon. In the meantime, if you’re planning a similar project, I’d recommend looking into the Dulux Renovation Range — it’s specifically designed for surfaces like laminate and is a solid choice for repainting kitchen cabinetry.

For the handles, a simple and effective option is to spray them with black enamel spray paint. Just make sure to lightly sand them first with 240 grit sandpaper to help the paint adhere properly.

Here's a helpful guide: Rejuvenate your cabinets with Dulux paint.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Re: Kitchen cabinet paint revamp

Hi @Beginner20,

I used the Dulux Renovation cabinet paint and an enamel spray for the cabinet handles.  I spent quite some time preparing the doors ensuring these were clean dust free and then applied the paint with a mini roller in a high density foam to try and get to best smooth finish.  I applied the paint fairly thinly to minimise runs and drips.  The edges were a little fiddly but I had a set-up that I could leave for a few days and I just rotated the doors and painted various parts over a few days. Painting the cabinet trim was also fiddly and I used a fairly slim brush for that.
