Kitchen makeover using Kaboodle

This project was a full DIY renovation of our kitchen, using the Bunnings Kaboodle raw board range. We wanted a space that felt more “us” warm, functional, and a bit more custom than your standard flat pack. We modified two 450mm drawer units to fit our butler sink by removing the internal compartments, and finished it off with a Kaboodle American Oak bench top for a natural, timeless look. We painted the cabinetry in Dulux Dark Sky, which brought the whole space to life with a deep, moody tone. It’s been equal parts challenge and reward.

Materials

Kaboodle Raw Board Cabinets – from Bunnings (flat-pack style)

2 x 450mm Kaboodle Drawer Units – modified for the butler sink

Kaboodle American Oak Benchtop – timber benchtop cut to size

Dulux “Dark Sky” Paint , for painting the raw cabinetry

Primer and  Sandpaper , for prepping the raw board before painting

Cabinet Handles/Hardware – your choice of knobs or pulls

Wood Filler and Caulk – for smoothing edges and filling any gaps

Sealer or Timber Oil – to protect and finish the benchtop

Butler Sink . ceramic or fireclay farmhouse-style sink

Tools

Makita Drill – for assembling cabinetry and fixing everything in place

Drill Bits and Driver Bits – for pre-drilling and driving screws

Jigsaw or Circular Saw – to cut the benchtop and make sink cutouts

Measuring Tape and Pencil – essential for accurate planning and cuts

Spirit Level – to make sure everything’s straight and level

Screwdrivers – for adjusting cabinet hinges and hardware

Clamps – to hold pieces in place while cutting or assembling

Orbital Sander or Sanding Block – for prepping raw board and smoothing edges

Paintbrushes and Rollers – for priming and painting cabinetry

Steps

Step 1

We measured our space and planned out on sketch up,. this helped us visualise how the cabinetry would fit.

Re: Kitchen makeover using Kaboodle

Hi @PaulineHawker,

A warm welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community, it is wonderful to have you with us.

What an incredible transformation!

You’ve done such a brilliant job combining Kaboodle with your own creative customisations, it feels like a warm, personal space.

The Dulux Dark Sky adds a stunning, moody depth, and that American Oak benchtop ties it all together beautifully.

Those pendant lights are another beautiful addition, which do a fantastic job of accentuating the American Oak benchtop.

Thanks for sharing all the steps and tools as well, really helpful for anyone considering a DIY kitchen makeover.

Congratulations on a fantastic project.

Jacob
