Re: Ply wood used to make kitchen cabinets

Hello @George_Reno

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us and thanks for sharing your question about using plywood to make kitchen cabinets.

For building durable and long-lasting kitchen cabinet carcasses, CD or BB/BC-grade Plywood is among the best plywood options available at Bunnings. Plywood, such as the Cut & Edge Plywood Panels from Ecoply, is known for its smooth finish, strength, and excellent screw-holding capacity, making it ideal for both visible cabinetry and internal carcass construction. It also resists warping than many softwood varieties, which is especially helpful in kitchen environments where humidity can fluctuate. Please check with your stores trade specialist for availability.

As an alternative to plain plywood, Formply is another practical choice for kitchen cabinet carcasses thanks to its sealed surface, which is moisture-resistant and easy to clean—ideal for hidden interiors. Melamine-faced particle board is another popular material, valued for its affordability and pre-finished surface, and is widely available at the store.

Pine panels on the other hand are best reserved for decorative shelving rather than full carcasses, as they may warp without proper sealing. MDF offers a smooth surface for painting or laminating, with HMR MDF being a better option in areas exposed to moisture. For under-sink cabinets and other wet zones, materials like PVC panels or laminate boards provide added protection. Whichever material you choose, ensure it’s rated for interior cabinetry and suitable for kitchen environments.

If you have any other questions we can help with, please let us know.
