cutting a floating shelf down to size

How can I cut a floating shelf down to size and the cut end look presentable when it’s not up against a wall? Thank you

It's great that you've received excellent advice from @AlanM52. Just to add to the suggestions made, I recommend inspecting the angle bracket type being used and making sure that it will not be visible should you cut the shelf.
