sanding and painting

Hi everyone,

We are ronavting our kitchen and need to sand, fix and paint the plasterboard walls (mainly one) and the ceailing. Can someone please guide me through the right steps and products I will need to use. I've done this types of things before but on a concrete wall.

Picture below.

Many thanks

Re: sanding and painting

Hello @Simona1449

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about painting your wall.

The general steps to paint your plasterboard wall are to clean and repair the surface first. When all the repairs to the surface are carried out the next step is to sand the surface. The sanding dust is then removed from the surface of the wall by wiping it down. Any area that you don't wish to overpaint must covered in masking tape. Drop sheets are placed along the floor to protect it from paint splashes. A primer is then applied and the then the topcoat.

Here are some handy step-by-step guides:

Re: sanding and painting

Thanks Eric. I have one more question. As I need to repair a big piece of the plasterboard, can I use the filler or do I need something more specific? I have bought some patches for the holes and some filler. Just wondering if the filler will.work on a large surface.

Thanks again

Re: sanding and painting

Hello @Simona1449

If the hole in the wall is larger than the patch kits available, it will be necessary to use a Gyprock CSR 530 x 530 x 10mm Mini Plaster Repair Panel cut to size. I suggest having a look at this discussion - Solved: How to patch large gyprock hole @RichMist
