Can I replace this vertical blind carrier stem with parts from Bunnings?

Hi there,

On my vertical blind, the stem broke off the carrier truck. It looks like I can't make any adjustments to the truck without removing the whole assembly. I"m hoping there's an expert here to give me some suggestions on how I can fix it. Does Bunnings have spare parts to fix this?

Thank you!

Hi @hehkCon,

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community, it is fantastic to have you with us.

Unfortunately, we do not carry generic parts that would be capable of fixing this issue, as they are generally part of a system that is specific to the blinds.

If you could identify their brand and your blinds were from Bunnings, I would be happy to see if we can get spare parts for it.

You could maybe try gluing the piece back together using Loctite 2g And 4ml 2 Part All Plastic Superglue. You would just have to be careful that no glue is applied to a moving part as this could seize up the system.

Allow me to tag @Dave-1, @Noyade and @AlanM52 to see if they have any ideas.

Hi there @hehkCon,

I did a quick Google for you using 'Vertical Blind Track Carrier Hook'

Just keep looking if that's not suitable.

I have for other people made my own paper clip/dowel pin replacements lol.

Cheers

Re: Can I replace this vertical blind carrier stem with parts from Bunnings?

Hey @JacobZ, I really appreciate the feedback. All good, I don't think these were from bunnings. I was initially thinking superglue but it wasn't a clean break and I don't think there's enough surface area to anchor the broken piece. Maybe if I can't get a replacement I'll try some epoxy filler and mould it in.

@AlanM52Thanks for the search, this could be the stem I'm looking for, if not very close.

Thank you legends, I'll keep researching and get fix it.

Good Afternoon @hehkCon

I like @AlanM52's suggestion, if you have a spotlight store close maybe check them out as they will have someone who looks after vertical blinds for sure. Other then that as you said "back to researching it" 😕

Re: Can I replace this vertical blind carrier stem with parts from Bunnings?

Hi @Dave-1 and everyone just an update. I took apart the assembly and let me tell you that this was one of the most frustrating things I've experienced this year and I'm a dragons supporter... Even when I thought I had breakthrough and removed one of the tracks, the thin metal rail was kind of crimped so it doesn't move out of place. I checked the other side but it was the exact same too. There's no way I can remove the single track without compromising the function of the blind. This track in particular also doesn't let the stem slide out like I've seen in other ones. Maybe this was done on purpose so it makes it incredibly hard for average people to make this particular repair.

I put it all back together and I will be going bunnings for some super glue or putty. If you guys have vertical blinds be very careful not to have any weighted objects near by that could pull on the blade of the blind 😅😭

Good Evening @hehkCon

😕 Feeling your pain. I have old green vertical blinds and the pullback string/rope snapped years ago. I use pegs now.... I intend to replace it sometime but as yet it is on the "todo" list Maybe keep an eye out for a similar model to yours in rubbish days / social media for sale pages?

Re: Can I replace this vertical blind carrier stem with parts from Bunnings?

Oh no another one at the mercy of vertical blinds. I like your creativity @Dave-1. Actually, this morning I managed to get the small piece of stem back into the track and it locked after a few attempts. When I tried to remove it again to reinforce it with glue, it wouldn't budge. I'm keeping my fingers crossed as it seems to be good for now. Thanks everyone 🙏
