Fireplace reno using mosaic tiles

Using Decor8 beige Java marble tile mosaic we upstyled our fireplace.

We used white grout and then a piece of lemon scented gum for the mantle piece to finish the look.

We lightly sanded the existing mdf painted fireplace to help the tiles stick better then using  Dunlop tile adhesive to attach the tiles. We  used full panels where possible , cutting as necessary and filling gaps with individual stones.
We left the adhesive to dry overnight then the next day grouted with Davco white grout.
We used a damp sponge to press the grout between the stones and wiped off excess grout from the face off the stones to bring back the colours.
We left to dry overnight then buffed the tiles with a soft cloth to remove the grout on the surface of the tiles.
We attached the mantle piece using Selleys liquid nails.

Re: fireplace reno

Hello @Flahives

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your fireplace revamp.

This fireplace makeover is charming and well thought out. The beige Java marble mosaic adds a natural, textured look that works beautifully with the white grout, creating a clean yet organic feel. The lemon-scented gum mantle is a lovely touch, bringing in warmth and character. It's clear that care went into the process from prepping the surface to carefully placing and grouting the tiles. The final result is subtle and inviting, blending rustic and modern elements nicely. It feels like a cozy, stylish feature that suits the space perfectly without being overdone. A lovely transformation all around.

Good afternoon @Flahives

What a difference! It went from being something plain to something very stylish and certainly fits your styling of the room.

I really like how you have created the step ot for a mantel with the mdf. Will be filing that one away for future use

Looks very professional and as if its been there for ages.
