We have been wanting / needing to renovate our walk in wardrobe but kept putting it off due to the price of cabinets as I wanted a custom look. I decided in the end to purchase a number of units off the shelf and customise them to create a space that is perfect for us.
You can see the full video Below.

We bought
To create the vanity area we cut down the drawer units to the height of the top drawer, we reinforced it and added a stone top we found on market place.
The biggest tell that your cabinets are flatpack is the join where the two cabinets meet so we added pine trim, once again off the shelf from Bunnings to the top, bottom and in between each of the units.
We added strip lighting to the shelves and units.
I didn't fix the back panel to the hanging cabinets of the wall cabinets and instead painted the wall behind the cabinets, making the whole room feel larger. As we removed the back panel we ensured the cabinets were all securely screwed to the wall and to each other to reduce movement.
Then I filled and decorated, I dried some lavender from the garden for the prints.
I've added some photos below.
Happy Renovating

What an absolutely stunning transformation Claire! (@Renowayoflife)
You've created a walk-in wardrobe that not only looks custom-built but also feels luxurious and deeply personal without the high-end price tag.
I love the black paint coupled with the strip lighting, it gives the room a cosy feel while still looking luxurious.
Thank you for sharing your process and the video; it’s a fantastic source of motivation for anyone thinking about a DIY wardrobe makeover.
Happy renovating and thank you for inspiring the Workshop community!

Hi @Girlfromgoldie1 All of the boxes and drawer units and all of the extra materials to make it custom were all off the shelf from Bunnings. The flatpack is Flexistorage
Good Afternoon @Renowayoflife
Definently up to your standards! Wooooo Love the work and the idea. Especially hanging the shirts the way you have!
So the question I have is how did you light the hangers (Tho have ideas of how to make it) or did you purchase the rails with lights in them?
So many ideas to file away!
