I need to build a computer desk for my kid with the size of 1200mm X 600mm. The depth i see is generally 18mm or 19mm.
What sort of Desk leg and screws do i need ?
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @tarchatt. It's marvellous to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about building a table.
We’ve got quite a few suitable table leg options for a desk that size. Some of the tubular steel table legs are the simplest and most cost-effective choice. Something like the Taskmaster 700 x 50mm Black Steel Table Legs would be ideal for a 1200mm x 600mm desktop.
If you’d like to future-proof the desk or add some height flexibility, there are adjustable versions available that extend from 700mm up to around 1100mm. These are great if your child grows or if you want to repurpose the desk later for standing use or a taller teen. Beyond that, there’s also a range of more stylish options such as angled, hairpin, or frame-style legs, but the tubular legs will do the job perfectly from a functional standpoint.
When it comes to screws, you just want them to be slightly shorter than the thickness of your tabletop. For an 18–19mm top, screws around 16mm long would be ideal. The leg mounting plates themselves have a bit of thickness, so even if you used 18mm screws, they won’t go all the way through, but 16mm is a safe bet. Just make sure to use pan-head or washer-head screws for a firm hold without damaging the top.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
