Hi everyone,
I’m looking for some advice on building a floor bed for my toddler.
We’re planning to place the bed in a corner and use two walls as two sides/edges of the bed.
Has anyone done this before?
- What kind of frame or support works best?
- Any safety considerations I should keep in mind (ventilation, gaps, wall protection, etc.)?
- Would you recommend a DIY build or a specific product/design?
Photos or tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

In regards to the pre-built bed, I propose looking at the Artiss Wooden Bed Frame Kids House Beds Single.
However, if you are keen to build it from scratch, can you please tell us how big the bed will be? Can you please tell us more about the two sides you were referring to? Will the bed be integrated into the wall and non-movable?

I thought I'd add that when building or modifying a toddler bed, it’s important to consider a few key safety points. Ensure there are no gaps larger than 30–40mm between the mattress and any wall or frame where a child could become trapped. If the bed will sit against walls, use breathable materials and leave space for air circulation to reduce moisture buildup and mould. Make sure all timber is smooth, well‑sanded, and sealed with child‑safe finishes, and check that any fixings are secure and recessed to avoid scratches or snags. Even with a floor bed, adding soft corner protectors or low rails can help prevent bumps during sleep. Finally, regularly inspect the bed structure as your child grows and becomes more active.
It's important to note that beds for infants and toddlers have stringent design specifications to ensure safety, unlike adolescent beds. You'll also find that due to the manufacturing process, you'd be unlikely to build a bed any cheaper than purchasing a pre-made option, so they are certainly worth exploring.
