I have a wooden passage door that sits between the hall and the lounge room. It has a 40mm gap under it and I need to "wind proof" it. All the commercial weatherstrips seem too small for the gap. I am unable to take the door off so need to be able to screw something onto the door to stop the wind form "howling"" under it. At present use a sand snake things but keep tripping over it. Any suggestions ? Thank you.door gap
Hi @MinnieMon,
A simple solution to minimise the gap would be to nail a timber trim along the lower section of the door, bringing it closer to the floor. Something like 65 x 12mm, 2.4m DAR Tasmanian Oak Select should work well. Just make sure there’s enough clearance from the floor for the door to open smoothly. You could then improve the seal with a standard door seal, now that you are within specifications.
Another option is to use a door seal, such as the Moroday MDS2B Self-Adhesive Black Econo Door-Seal. It’s 50mm high, so you’d have about 10mm to attach it to the door, which could help “wind-proof” the gap without having anything on the floor to trip over.
Either of these options should help stop the wind from howling under the door.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
