How to hang curtains in a rental?

Hi,

I’ve got a void which is of glass in the lounge room a get a lots of sun ,  I would love to hang some sheer curtains but wondering the best rod to use without drilling any holes in the wall.

also the front door is wood and glass alternating and I was wondering the best way to make that more private. I have seen some adhesive materials being used,

I’m a real newbie at doing DIY projects and would love some help

Thanks in advance

Re: hello, how to hang curtains in a rental?

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community, Jillanne (@1Lucy4361). It's a pleasure to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about privacy in a rental.

If you’re happy to post a couple of photos of the void and the front door, that’ll help our members better understand what you’re working with and offer more tailored suggestions. Just let me know if you need a hand uploading the images—happy to walk you through it.

For the sheer curtains, you might like to look into expanding curtain rods. These can be installed between two flat surfaces without drilling, and they’re ideal for rentals where you want to avoid damaging the walls. We have the Windoware 10 - 13mm 70 - 120cm Mini Tension Rod or Windoware 130 - 244cm White Springfit Rod, which would be suitable for sheer curtains.

As for the front door, adhesive frosted film or window tinting is a great option for adding privacy without blocking out too much light. It’s a simple DIY job, removable, and rental-friendly.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Hi @1Lucy4361,

Here is a guide on How to install window tinting. The process is the same for frosting.

With the curtain rods, they need to be expanded within the gap and then locked into position by turning them.
