Hi Bunnings community
I am inserting a gas fire place in a gallery wall . As I can’t get heat into the lower level of my house . There is a brick wall behind the Gyprock with a 40 cm gap which means I could have a recess with bookshelves or alcove for lamps and give space to a rather narrow room ,
Do I just keep it simple and go
1. Flush with wall and suspend TV above with 20cm gap which will cause it to be only covering the gallery verticals by 20cm
2. Do I inset slightly and complete a feature wall. Would this be a big project
any ideas ?
the fire is 940 wide 560 high and 400 deep
Any ideas would be appreciated when consideration of budget is also required .
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @vanita. It's a pleasure to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about installing a fireplace.
If you’re working with a tight budget, keeping the fireplace flush with the wall and mounting the TV above is likely the most straightforward and cost-effective option. This approach minimises structural changes, limits finishing work, and still allows for a clean, modern look. Just be aware that the 20cm gap between the fireplace and TV may be tight, as most manufacturers specify minimum clearance distances to protect electronics from heat, so you may need a heat deflector.
Insetting the fireplace and creating a feature wall can look stunning and provide opportunities for alcoves, shelving, or recesses for a TV, but it’s a more complex project that typically involves additional framing, plastering, and finishing. Whether you choose a flush or recessed design, it’s essential to consult with a professional fireplace installer before starting. They’ll ensure your plan meets all safety requirements and regulations, particularly the correct setbacks from combustible materials and adequate ventilation, as well as verify that the chosen design is suitable for the unit’s heat output and installation specifications.
