Re: Need help with door installation

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @jo94. It's fantastic to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about installing a door.

To install a door in this opening, you will first need to create a timber frame between the current walls. Measure the width and height of the opening and build a rectangular frame from structural pine, making sure it is square and level. Secure the frame to the existing walls, ceiling, and floor using screws suited to the surface you are fixing into. Once the frame is in place, you will need to enclose the section above the door to create a complete doorway. Extend the timber framing vertically to the ceiling across the gap, then cut plasterboard to fit and screw it into the timber. The plasterboard joints can be finished with tape and compound so that the new section blends in with the surrounding wall. After this is done, you can install a standard door jamb within the framed opening, which will allow you to hang a hinged door. To finish, install your door hardware, trim around the door jamb and cornice for the ceiling. This setup will close off the bathroom, help contain steam and moisture, and provide a neat and professional finish.

Re: How to install a door?

Hi @jo94,

Installing a door in that space is advanced DIY, if you don't have the skills is there DIY person in your circle who can assist with the project.

Does the bathroom have a exhaust fan.

I am thinking of some other options like a curtain rod.
