How to install decorative slat panels with coving?

I'd like to fit some decorative slat panels to a feature wall in a bedroom, but we have coving at the ceiling/wall interface.

Does anyone have any ideas how I can make the meeting of the slats with the ceiling look smart?

Re: How to install decorative slat panels with coving?

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @C4COL. It's wonderful to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about decorative panels.

Decorative slat panels generally lean toward an industrial or contemporary style, with crisp lines and sharp corners. That’s why pairing them with a curved cove cornice can sometimes look a little mismatched — the transition from the sleek vertical slats to the soft curve of the cornice can feel a bit odd.

The cleanest solution would be to remove the cornice along the feature wall and have the panels meet the ceiling directly. This gives you a seamless, modern finish. However, if the adjoining walls still have cornices, that creates its own challenge — especially in the corners — as you’d have to work out how to blend the different treatments without it looking out of place.

Another complication is that the panels will usually protrude further from the wall than the edge of the cornice, so running them into the curve often leaves an awkward gap. If removing the cornice isn’t an option, it might be worth experimenting with a few different timber mouldings or trims to see if they can bridge that transition in a way that feels intentional and tidy.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
