Hello!
I have recently moved into my own apartment. Both bedrooms currently have wardrobes that have already been installed however the both have open shelving which looks super messy and I would really like to install some drawers in there so I can get rid of my chest of drawers that take up too much space. It looks like in one of the rooms there is some sort of flexible open storage installed meaning i could take out the shelves. However the dimesions seem to be a bit funny. The internal dimesions are 45cm deep x 47cm width. Everywhere I look seems to 50.5cm or 40cm with minimal inbewteen options. I'm unsure where the wardrobe inserts were purchased.
Is there anything I can do about this/anywhere that sells drawers that would fit in this cavity?
Thanks
Nicole
Hi @NicoleT,
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community, it is fantastic to have you with us.
Unfortunately, due to the irregular width of your cabinet, I can't find a suitable off-the-shelf option for drawers.
Perhaps you could build and install your own drawers like @twocutekelpies did in her DIY Kaboodle base cabinet to drawers conversion project. You could use a sheet of White Matt Particleboard, cut it to size with a circular saw, screw it together with some chipboard screws, tidy it up with some iron-on melamine edging and White Screw Caps and then install some Drawer Runners.
If you'd like to give this a try, I'd be happy to offer you some guidance. In terms of tools, you would need a drill, a circular saw, a spirit level to act as a straight edge to cut against and some clamps. If you'd like to give this a try, I would be happy to help.
Alternatively, you could use Clever Cube Fabric Inserts. They wouldn't completely fill the space, but they would make things look a bit tidier than an open shelf.
Let me know what you think.

Hi @NicoleT,
Yes... it's possible to DIY sliding drawers for those storage units but I don't think you would have the resources to build them yourself.
I suggest something like this.
I searched for 'storage drawers'.
Depending on the width you want you may have to search for other another one.
Cheers
I think if you built drawers like I did, you would lose valuable space, 30mm either side for sliders and melamine siding. We have the same type of wardrobe, and yes, they can look untidy but that's what wardrobe doors are for. 😎 I'd probably remove a few of those shelves and put bulkier stuff in there like jumpers etc. that are easier to keep reasonably tidy.
Cheers
Shelley

Hello @NicoleT
@twocutekelpies raises a very good point about space left after the cabinet drawer has been built. I've done a quick sketch of the drawer itself using 16mm MDF panels. It will show you how much internal space will be left once the cabinet has been assembled.
