How to lay hybrid flooring in wardrobe?

Hi guys,

I am going to lay Hybrid flooring on my wardrobe. 1400 x 2350 size. Not big. This is a part of walk in wardrobe makeover.

I have few question.

  • Currently the walk in robe area has carpert that is part of main bed room. I will still have new carpet in my bed room but how do I go about having transition of carpet to timber ?
  • What do I need to make the transition or join look professional ?
  • What options do I have ?

  • What devices do I need to cut to size, if I required to ?
  • What are the process to do it.

I am sure somone must have already done it. I thoght I should start a fresh conversation.

Re: How to lay hybrid flooring in wardrobe?

Hi @Sugar you would need a saw to cut the end planks to size. The only option I can think of is to lay a transition trim. Is there a door before you walk into walk in robes or sliding doors?

Re: Laying Hybrid flooring

Hi @Sugar,

To keep things looking neat and professional, it’s best to remove the carpet in the walk-in so that your new hybrid flooring sits flush with the carpet you'll be installing in the bedroom. This helps avoid any awkward height differences between the two surfaces.

Once both floors are in place, you can use a transition strip across the join. These come in various styles—some clip into a base track and others are fixed with adhesive or screws. You'll find a good range at Bunnings, including options that match timber tones to help it blend in seamlessly.

As for cutting the hybrid planks, a mitre saw, or circular saw, will do the job—just make sure to use a fine-tooth blade for a clean edge. Here's a helpful guide: How to install hybrid flooring.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

hi @projectmumdanni @MitchellMc

Following is the picture where I want to lay Hybrid flooring

Yes, there is a door that opens to WIR.

Do I have to remove existing skirting and give some gap between flooring and vertical wall for expansion and contraction ? or, can I give a gap between flooring and the existing skirting, and use some small trim (not sure exact name) ? I have seen them using in my friends place, long, think stick to hide the corners.

Hi @Sugar

Yes, you can leave the skirting on and use timber moulding to cover the gap of the hybrid flooring. They are also known as Hanwood 2.4m Scotia Ash WPC Hybrid Flooring Trim, they come in various colours so please choose carefully.

If you need further assistance, please let us know.

Re: How to lay hybrid flooring in wardrobe?

Hi @Sugar we removed skirting/trim and layed ours down with a little gap when meets the wall and then nailed a new skirting/trim down so it sat on top of flooring to hide gap. But I have seen done what it sounds like your friends have done.

Just make sure you cut right length or ends up gappy like ours..luckily we will be fixing it by end of year as putting cupboards along that wall. lol

Re: How to lay hybrid flooring in wardrobe?

@EricL @MitchellMc @projectmumdanni

This week I am going to install flooring and I am going to remove the old skirting and going to put new skirting. I am not going to use scotia. I am going to leave 5-10mm gap on the wall and install the flooring. One question I want to ask is: when flooring is finished and why I put new skirting board on top of the flooring, do i have to use any sort of silicon glue or gap filler to fill the gap ( if there will be any) where the flooring and skirting meets ?

For such an area (Wardrobe), what am I chosing ( i am confused between these two) : Hybrid or laminating flooring ?

Thanks.

Re: How to lay hybrid flooring in wardrobe?

Hi @Sugar,

Hybrid flooring is made from a rigid waterproof core, making it ideal for wet areas and high durability needs. Laminate flooring, while often more budget-friendly and timber-like underfoot, has a wood-based core and is only water-resistant, limiting its use in moisture-prone spaces. Assuming there are no oddly placed taps in your wardrobe, you are fine to use either.

When installing skirting boards over flooring that requires an expansion gap, you should not use any gap filler on the bottom edge of the skirting board, as the filler will limit the ability for the flooring to expand. The skirting should be installed tight to the flooring but should not be attached to it in any way.

Carpenters installing skirting boards will scribe the bottom edge of the skirting board and trim it so that it accounts for any undulations in the flooring and sits flush against the floor. If you sit the skirting boards flat on the floor where they will go, you will be able to see if there are any gaps beneath them where the floor undulates.

Hopefully, your flooring will not require this as it is a fairly advanced technique, but I am happy to offer guidance if you need it.

Let me know if you have any further questions.

This is what i was meaning .

if you see here, there looks a little bit of gap. Do we use silicon gap filler here to hid te gap (without taking help of Scotia or Scotia is only choice), as I would believe the gap may not be similar throughtout ? Sorry, If I am asking the same question in circle.

Re: How to lay hybrid flooring in wardrobe?

Hi @Sugar,

Yes, that is what I was referring to also.

No, you should not use gap filler as it will stop the flooring expanding which is why you need the gap there.

Skirting boards can be trimmed so there is very little gap beneath them but using scotia as well as the skirting makes any small gaps much easier to hide.

Let me know if you require any further explanation.
