Hello,
I want to mount the Porta 40 x 18mm 3m pine picture rail on my brick living room wall. I will be applying clear coat to the pine to keep the wood look. What's the best way to mount it without having the mounting points overly visible?
Brandon
Hi @bdock,
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community, it is wonderful to have you with us.
To mount your Porta 40 x 18mm Picture Rail, you'll have to use Wall Plugs with a 40mm screw with a countersunk head such as these Zenith 8G x 40mm Countersunk Rib Head Chipboard Screws.
You'll have to predrill holes for your screws using a 3mm drill bit, then place the picture rail against the wall to transfer the screw locations onto the wall. I'd drill your holes first, lift it up to the wall, then put the drill bit through the pilot hole and give it a turn or two to lightly mark the brick.
You'll then have to drill holes in the brick to accommodate your wall plugs. This will require a masonry bit in the corresponding size as your wall plug. If they are green plugs, it would be 7mm.
After the plugs are installed, use a countersink bit to create space for your screw heads to sit in, then install the rail so that the screws sit just below the surface of the rail.
As the screw heads will sit just below the surface, you can then cover the screws with a pine wood filler such as this Timbermate Pine Wood Filler before applying your clear coat.
Let me know what you think and if you have further questions please don't hesitate to ask.

Thanks Jacob,
Followed your advice and got the job done. Here's a picture of the final product, we just just need to hang our frames now...
Hello @bdock
That's very nice work, please make sure to post a picture of the frames once they are in place.
