How to paint a bed frame?

I am wishing to repaint our double bed, to match the colours of our new house we have built. Our double bed now is a golden oaky brown timber/ wood bed , with a slight gloss finish. I just have no idea where to start. (Other than sanding and priming) but unsure of what products to use, grit type etc

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about giving your double bed frame a makeover.

You are correct that the bed will need to be sanded down especially if it has varnish or an oil seal on its surface. Once the timber bed frame has been sanded down a primer is usually applied to give the topcoat something to grip on. I propose looking at the Zinsser 1L Bulls Eye 1-2-3 Undercoat Primer Sealer Stain Blocker. This primer has a special feature and that it blocks stains from rising up from the bottom of the primer. For the topcoat, I recommend either the Dulux Interior Paint Wash&Wear Low Sheen Vivid White - 1L or Dulux 1L Aquanamel Semi Gloss White Enamel Paint.

To expedite the sanding process, I suggest investing in an electric sander. It comes with a set series of sanding pads from 80grit all the way to 240grit. Just remember that the lower the grit the rougher the sandpaper will be, and the high numbers are used to give the furniture a fine finish.
