How to repair hallway table timber base?

Our hallway table has suffered chipped side base as well as fading of its timber surface. I have decided upon using wood filler and Feast Watson Surface Restore, or perhaps Scandinavian oil for restoring the base underneath. Are there any other recommendations? Thank you in advance

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about your hallway table.

It appears your table has had its share of bumps and bruises, I propose using Timbermate Wood Filer to repair the damage section at the bottom of the cabinet. If you are planning to re-seal the surface of the cabinet, I suggest sanding the entire cabinet back to wood. This will allow you to put on a uniform coating over the surface, failure to sand off all of the old sealer will result in uneven coating. If you are sanding the table, I suggest thinking about investing in an Ozito 200W Detail Sander. It comes with a set of sanding pads which should be enough for a single piece of timber furniture.

My best advice is to use a vacuum cleaner with a soft brush attachment to remove all the sanding dust on the surface of the furniture. Wipe the surface down with Selleys Sugar Soap Wall Cleaning Wipes - 25 Pack. Once the surface is dry you can begin painting the table with your preferred paint or sealer.

Hi @mlawrenh,

The filler needs to attach to solid timber, so anything that is loose should be removed. By removing any splintered or loose material, you will have a stronger base of support for your filler.

Any pieces that have splintered and are loose should be removed, and then the surface should be lightly sanded with 120 Grit Sandpaper.

This will ensure the filler is clinging to solid material.
