How to replace tiles in entry hallway?

I had very old tiles in our main entrance hallway (6 sqm). I have just removed them and now considering two options :

1. Lay hybrid timber flooring (5 mm thick). <<-- Thing to consider : Will have main hallway 5 mm raised than rest of the house, will have to chose colour wisely to compliment timber flooring for rest of the house.

2. Polish and stain the existing timber to match rest of the house. <<-- Would it be an exact match to rest of the house ? what is the best way to find the exactly matching stain / colour ?

Could you please advise which way would give the best results.

Re: How to replace tiles in entry hallway?

Hello @bentk04

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's wonderful to have you join us, and thank you for sharing your question about your flooring.

Between laying Hybrid Flooring and staining your timber flooring, I would go for the hybrid flooring for ease of installation. Despite the 5mm difference this can be overcome by putting in a Roberts 1.65m Silver Senior Ramp Floating Floor Trim. This will provide an easy transition for people walking about and prevent tripping.

However, if you are set on painting the floor, I suggest bringing a small sample of the existing painted floor. Trying to match an existing stain and varnish is very difficult as the old stain has already faded and is no longer its original colour. It might be possible to find a close match, but its best to bring a sample so that the paint specialist at the store can try and find something similar.

Here are some handy step-by-step guides:
