How to stain and seal fruitwood table?

Hello. My son has sanded back my fruitwood table. I want to stain and seal it and wonder if Bunnings has a similar colour to

The pic with the artisan stain and seal. Artisan Stain & Seal - Fruitwood We were looking at a Teak stain but unsure about it. I would prefer a water based product if I had to seal it separately. Thank you.

Re: how to stain seal my fruitwood table top and stand in a stain colour I like

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @georgiet. It's wonderful to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about coating a table.

It can definitely be tricky trying to match a stain just from a photo, especially since different timbers absorb stain in their own way. Even if the teak stain looks close to what you're aiming for, the final colour can vary a lot depending on the wood. For example, a teak stain on pine will look quite different to the same stain on hardwood or something like Fruitwood. That’s why it’s always best to test a few stain options on an inconspicuous spot, like underneath the table, before you commit to doing the top.

It might also be worth considering whether the original finish you liked was actually a stain, or if it could have been the natural colour of the Fruitwood brought to life with something like a French polish or a traditional shellac finish. If it wasn’t heavily stained, you might be able to achieve a similar warm tone just by using a clear or lightly tinted sealer to enhance the natural grain.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Thank you for your response. I think I like the idea of a lightly tinted sealer. Cheers from Georgie.

Hello @georgiet

Please make sure to post a photo update, I'm sure our members would be keen to see the fruit tables finish once you've sealed it.

If you need further assistance, please let us know.

Eric
