How to strip varnish from furniture?

Hi Team,

What’s the best way to strip varnish from furniture? I’ve tried paint stripper (okay but messy) and sanding (works well but pretty time consuming and not great for the little nooks). I’m thinking of trying a heat gun.

what would others suggest?

All things considered, sanding might be the most straightforward approach for a clean and controlled result. It may take a bit of patience, but it's achievable and will likely give you the best finish in the end.

Yeah, the hard to reach sections are proving tricky. I’m using a palm sander but am thinking something smaller might help.

Yes, the rotary tool would @Elljames. My wife picked one up for doing the same intricate sanding details.

These Ryobi 240 Grit Sanding Bands are what you'd use. The kit comes with the spindle they attach to.
