Living room TV unit upgrade and accent wall

Hello everyone, This is my first post.I've read some great posts on here and just thought I'd share some projects as well as this is a great community!.

I upgraded our living room area with built in cabinets and a feature accent wall with theatre black as the colour for the wall so it does not reflect any light when watching TV.  The cabinets are 900 x 4 so have an incredible amount of space in them. They have cable slots in every cabinet and on the benchtop surface as well which allows for good airflow etc. There is a whole bunch of tech stuff hidden in those cabinets you can't see and a LOT of cabling through walls. Here is the full list:

AV receiver and in wall home theatre connections

8 camera security system in wall with appropriate ports etc

Media server

NBN Point and modem

In wall cabling for connection to TV shown in image

Playstation hidden

Powerpoints of course

NBN connection port

TV Sat port

As you can see, if all the above were just sitting out on a TV unit, it would be so messy with the enormous amount of cables in there..and it was for a long time. Even with all this stuff in there, I still have plenty of spare space in 2 of the cabinets for more stuff like board games etc. There were no cabinets there and was just an empty wall. I'll post some before pics. Pretty much all the stuff for the project was bought from bunnings. Thank you for viewing!

Materials

>Cabinets:  Kaboodle Cabinets (900 x 4)

>Benchtop: Timber Project Panels for benchtop from bunnings

> Some additional timber for feature wall

Tools

I used a lot of tools of course but pretty much all ozito I have collected over the years:

>Drop Saw

>Jig Saw

>Impact driver

> Drill

>Table Saw

>Multitool

> Hole saws

> Paintbrushes etc

Steps

Step 1

Before 1Before 1Before 2Before 2

You can see some before photos above here in Step 1. If anyone is interested for more details, happy to provide but otherwise it'll take too long to explain how I did it all.

Re: Living room TV unit upgrade and accent wall

Hi @Crustydoggy,

A warm welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community, it is if wonderful to have you with us.

That looks fantastic, and what a clever way to make the space both functional and stylish!

Hiding all that tech and cabling in built-in cabinets makes such a huge difference, and you’ve managed to keep everything tidy without sacrificing airflow or accessibility.

The choice of “theatre black” for the feature wall is spot on — perfect for creating that cinema feel and really elevating the TV area.

I really like how you’ve thought through the details with cable slots, ports, and in-wall cabling so nothing is visible, yet everything is set up exactly where you need it.

This is a brilliant project. Thank you for sharing.

Jacob
