I am wondering what type of paint I should use to just paint the brickwork and metal support under the mantlepiece shelf. I wish to paint it white. Like the wooden surrounds.
I have black fireproof paint for the internal brickwork.
Thanks
Hi @Myhaven,
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community, it is fantastic to have you with us.
You'll want to start by giving the surfaces a good clean with sugar soap and warm water, using a scrubbing brush to agitate any dirt or soot that is sitting on the bricks.
The most important thing is to start with a high-quality primer that is suitable for both metal and brick. This Dulux PRECISION White Maximum Strength Adhesion Primer would be my recommendation. It’s designed to grip both porous surfaces, like brick, and smooth, non-porous ones like metal. This ensures consistent adhesion and prevents peeling.
Once primed, you can use 2 coats of an interior paint such as Dulux Wash & Wear as your topcoat.
Let me know what you think and if you have further questions, please don't hesitate to ask.
