Does anyone know what a good tile adhesive is for a Victorian fireplace hearth? I've called a fireplace installation company and all they have said is it needs to be cement based. Also called Sika and they didn't have any idea. I'm concerned that if I use the wrong adhesive the tiles will come lose, so I need something that will resist the heat. Example of what I am talking about in the attached photo.
Hi @flashransom,
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community, and thank you for your question.
I've spoken with the technical team at Ardex, who supply our Dunlop tiling products. They informed me that a product such as this Dunlop 20kg Universal Tile Adhesive would be suitable as long as it is outside of the "high-heat zone" and only experiences temperatures up to around 70°c, which their products have been tested to.
If the tiles were likely to exceed these temperatures, the technical team at Ardex and I are not aware of a product suitable for this purpose. The fireplace installation company may have experience in this type of installation and would be your best bet for guidance.
Have a look at this technical bulletin from Ardex about Tiling adjacent to hearth fireplaces for some further information.
Let me know if there is anything else I can assist with.
