Re: why laminate floor is slippery all of a sudden

Hi @Bennn,

That is an interesting one. I can't give you an answer, but I can certainly pose some questions that might narrow down our search.

First of all, do you have any photos of the area that you could share?

Are you aware of what is underneath the flooring? Is it a concrete slab? Or timber flooring?

Is there anything obviously different about this particular spot from others?

Is there a lot of concentrated light in this area? Are there windows nearby?

Is it a very high-traffic area compared to others?

The three thoughts I had were that it could be somehow related to what is underneath, it could be reacting to the UV that is hitting it, or it could just be that it is more worn than other areas.

Allow me to tag @Dave-1, @Noyade and @AlanM52 to see if they have any ideas.

Re: why laminate floor is slippery all of a sudden

Good morning @Bennn

My thoughts tend to go along the lines of something that has been spilled in the past still having something left that is causing the slipperyness. Has anything been spilt in that area since you purchased the house?

I know when I have pollished my floorboards they are really slippery for a fair while, maybethe pineoclean is leaving some residue behind?

Really stretching my mind to how a section could be slippery, it keeps coming back to something spilt or maybe slid over that area.

Hi @Bennn,

Similar thoughts to @JacobZ and @Dave-1 and I am targeting foreign residue.

Chux Magic Eraser Extra Thick Cleaner Block.jpg

Try this our cleaning lady has that in her bag of tricks.

Needless to say be careful trying that, get down with your nose close to the floor and viewing at a angle try a small patch.

Also have at hand a lint free cloth to (whatever the result) wipe off.

Good luck,

Re: why laminate floor is slippery all of a sudden

Hi Jacob,

Attached are a couple of pictures of the floor and the underside of the house.
The only difference is that last year we opened a small window in the kitchen to improve air circulation. This year, we closed that window.
Additionally, we also closed a door this year that previously allowed access to the return air filter.

In the back of my mind, I think we might have spilled some oil food in the kitchen, and by mopping the area, we just spread the oil around and not  cleaned properly

Re: why laminate floor is slippery all of a sudden

Hi @Bennn,

If it is due to oil on the floor like you suspect, then your best bet would be to give it another mop with some very hot water with a floor cleaner such as this Selleys Complete Clean Multi Surface Floor Cleaner.

Give this a try and let me know how it goes.
