Hi all. I'm building a 3x4 m low level deck and have gone for 90 mm Specright Merbeau.
I'm wanting an opinion on whether the Camo system will work ok for this type of wood (19mm) or am I safer going with 10g x 50 mm countersunk SS screws?

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @Mot. It's fabulous to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about fixing decking boards.
We haven’t sold the Camo deck board fixing system in quite a few years, so I’m not familiar with the finer details of its current design or compatibility with your 19mm Merbau boards. It would be best to reach out to the manufacturer directly to confirm whether it’s suitable for your particular project. From memory, the system was generally designed for use on hardwood decking, but verifying that it can handle your specific board dimensions and density is a good idea.
In terms of fixing methods, there are pros and cons to both top-down screws and hidden fasteners. Top-down screwing with stainless steel screws – especially on a dense hardwood like Merbau – is typically regarded as the strongest and most secure option. It provides direct mechanical fixing into the joist and allows easier future maintenance if any boards need to be replaced. Hidden systems, while they offer a clean, uninterrupted surface and a more seamless look, rely on lateral fixing into the sides of the board, which might not provide the same long-term hold in very dense timber or in locations with a lot of movement from expansion and contraction.
If strength and longevity are your priority, especially on a low-level deck where ventilation might be reduced, I’d be leaning toward using 10g x 50mm countersunk stainless steel screws. Just remember to pre-drill to avoid splitting, and you’ll get a solid result.
Please let me know if you have any questions.

Hi Mitchell. Thanks for your explanation.
I was undecided until your response. So will go with the top fixing.
Cheers
