Good afternoon everyone,
newbie question, looking at building the garden arbour, that Bunnings will cut all the pieces etc, does anybody have any idea what the cost may be, please.
@Handynot are you asking how much it costs to have the cuts done by Bunnings or the costs for the whole project? First cut per piece is free on timber, each addition cut I believe is $1. It's possibly 50 cents but I'd have to check when I'm back at work.
If you are after a costing for the whole project, please list your materials and I can work it out from www.bunnings.com.au for you
Hi @Handynot,
Welcome to the Workshop community. We're really pleased you could join us and look forward to seeing you complete this project, and many more in the future! Our helpful members would certainly always be happy to lend you a hand along the way.
Are you referring about this project on the Bunnings website - How to build a D.I.Y. timber garden arbour?
If you could confirm, then it looks like the wonderful @MitchellM has offered to assist. I'll also pop the video below and the list of materials needed for all members who might be interested.
Thanks,
Jason

Thanks for replying,it’s the cost of the timber I was after, Jason put the list on, thanks for your help.
@Handynot
Total project cost is $505.85
Not a bad price considering how well made the project is, surely outlasting most pre-made units on the market.
Let us know if there is anything else you need. If you go ahead make sure to post some progress shots of your construction and your finished project once complete!
@Jason I've included a price for x2 600mm wide lattice, the material list calls of x1. From the video it appears they are using two.
Thank you very much for your help, seriously considering this now👍👍
@Handynot no worries at all! If you print out my list which includes the item numbers, it will expediate the process instore for the team member getting the materials together.
Hi everyone trying to get the all up price of pre cut timber for the diy garden arbour on the Bunnings site to no avail tried all 3 stores in Geelong and no one can help me
Welcome to the Workshop community @Tinyfeather60. I'd be happy to address your question.
Here is how to build a How to build a diy timber garden harbour.
The construction list is as follows:

I am wanting to build the same arbour as seen on the Bunnings DIY Video. I've got most of it down except the actual dimensions
ie height, width and dims of all pieces. it looks exactly what I am after and just want to make sure before moving ahead. I know these can be a bit of a "moving feast" however this appears to fit perfectly. The video is good except it does not quite provide the detail on some parts of the build. The construction list seems not to cover all the timber required hence need the detail. Can anyone help a newbie??? tks GM
Hi @tangels,
Apologies for the delay in getting back to you. Great to see you've been inspired by the How to build a D.I.Y. timber garden arbour project and want to build your own.
Normally the ever-helpful and knowledgable @MitchellMc would be on hand to assist you with this project but he is taking a well-deserved break. I will ask him to assist as soon as he gets back next week.
In the meantime, you might get all you need from this previous discussion from a year ago: Cost of building the timber garden arbour. In that discussion, Mitch put together the following list:
If you print out the list with the item numbers and took it into a Bunnings store, a team member could help get the materials together for you.
Hope that helps,
From the construction guide, I believe the size of the actual arbour would be approximately 2.5m high, 1.2m wide and 0.7m deep. The cut list in step one lists the lengths and dimensions of all the pieces required:
Here’s our cut list:
2 @ 2400 x 90 x 45mm
4 @ 2100 x 18 x 18mm
4 @ 568 x 18 x 18mm
2 @ 1780 x 140 x 45mm
5 @ 985 x 70 x 35mm
Please let me know if you need additional information or help.
Thank you Mitch... Have just gone out of lock down so looking forward to commencing project this week. After reviewing web page found some more detail which included more detail. Apprecite response.
Rgds Garry M.
Thank you Jason...
Between you and Mitch have all the info I now require..Rgds Garry M.
That's great to hear Garry (@tangels).
We look forward to following along with your build, keep us updated. We're here to help.
Hi,
wondering if Bunnings will get a restock of the items needed for constructing this arbor? Some items I cannot find on the website, such as the verandah corner bracket 🙁
thanks,
nicole
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @nicoletegan. It's a pleasure to have you join us and many thanks for your question about building a garden arbour.I'd suggest speaking with a helpful team member at your local store's Special Order counter. We'll likely be able to order those verandah brackets directly from our supplier Heritage Products. I'm sure you'll be pleased to find a much wider selection of styles available through Special Orders than we previously kept in-store.
Please let me know if you need assistance locating any other items on the list.Mitchell
You guys still there? I'm interested in building one of these arbours.. I'm sure the cost will have gone up heaps in the last 4 years but I can't even find many of items on the Bunnings website. The other issue is that the uprights are only H3 treated pine, designed to be above ground yet these are concreted in the ground. I can't see H4 90x45's and I'd be reluctant to use H3 in the ground unless I am happy for it to rot away in a few years leaving me big concrete blobs in the ground! Your comments or help appreciated. Also, are the verandah brackets treated?
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @Sherriff. It's marvellous to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about building a garden arbour.
I recommend swapping out the four upright 90 x 45mm H3 timbers with 90 x 90mm 2.4m Post F7 H4 Treated Pine Premium KD - 2.4m. A slight adjustment to the width of the horizontal timbers will be needed to accommodate their extra width.
Unfortunately, we no longer stock the verandah brackets. You might like to consider using decorative brackets instead. Please let me know if you have any questions.Mitchell
Hi Mitchell, I have a question regarding the timber arbour.
I would like to build the arbour but I would like it to be a strong enough to hold a removable toddler swing and toddler. I don't know if the vertical supports would need to be longer to go in the ground further? If it could be achieved, would you be able to suggest appropriate hook and fasteners please. Many thanks, Simone
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @Simbas2615. It's sensational to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about garden arbours. For your intended use, I’d recommend using 90 x 90mm H3-treated posts concreted at least 800mm into the ground to provide the necessary strength and stability. Given that the structure will need to support the weight of a moving toddler swing, it would be best to have a carpenter construct the arbour to ensure it is safe and secure for this purpose.
Once built, you could use heavy-duty swing hooks such as Zenith 12.7 x 140 x 10mm Zinc Plated Eye Screws, ensuring they are fixed into the strongest part of the overhead beam. Please let me know if you have any questions.Mitchell
