How to install Everhard easyDrain drainage channel?

Hi,

I'm putting down the Everhard easyDrain channels (picture below) and I have three questions regarding the installation:

1. On one side of the channel I have concrete slab and on the other side it will be pavers. I will put the channels down on a bed on mortar, but in many videos (on Youtube) I see along the sides of the channel they also use mortar to seal off water coming in from the sides. I was intending on doing this also. However, a friend of mine said to put the channels down without mortar on the sides and instead use a water sealant that will bond to the plastic channel and the concrete slab. And with the paving side he said just leave it flush with the channel (with no sealant). He said the 'Sikaflex 11FC' would do this job. What would be better, mortar along the sides or instead use the sealant?

2. What is the best sealant to apply inside the channels to prevent water leakage?

3. Last question is that it says on installation guides that you can join the 90mm soak well pipes to the bottom of the channels. However there is fairly small join, about 5mm for the pipe to connect into and PVC glue doesn't seem to bond the pipe to the channel very well. Any recommendations here, or just leave it as I could probably just wedge something hard underneath the pipe when it is connected?

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about your Easydrain channel.

I can only advise following the easy drain manual - EVERHARD EasyDRAIN Installation Instruction. Having the mortar on the side allows you to slope it in the direction of the channel. Any water run off goes down the side of the channel and not held by the lip of the cement slab. I suggest doing the same on the paved side so that edge of the mortar slopes down towards the channel as well. Technically the channels lock into place but if you wish to seal the joints you can use silicone to seal them.

You will notice that at the bottom of the channel there are three circles with different diameters. These correspond to standard PVC pipe sizes, if you wish to connect the pipe under the channel you will need a hole saw to cut under the channel. The pipe is then joined to the bottom and sealed with standard silicone.

Thanks for the advice. I will go with mortar around the sides as you suggest.

Just a couple of other questions:

1. What product names are a good choice for the silicone to seal the PVC pipe to the channel and also to seal the ends and connections within the channel itself?

2. In the Everhard Brochure it also says to put some 'closed cell foam' around the top edge of the channel to help with removing the grate later on (see below). I suppose this is done before the mortar is placed around the sides of the channel. If putting the foam in, does Bunnings sell this stuff? What is it called at Bunnings?

Hi @John23,

Gutter silicone would be a suitable sealant for the ends and connections.

For the expansion material, I would recommend expansion joint filler.
