Gday just want to thank everyone for the advice on what to finish my garden bench seat with so it wouldn’t rot.

Purchased all my products for the entire job from Bunnings.

If anyone is interested in making one themselves just PM me and I will give details.

Fantastic work, @Jim57; I love the design you've chosen. That tapered cut you've done on the backrest support really adds a nice contemporary touch.

Please find a utube link which details the building of the bench seat .It’s gives details in imperial so you will need to convert to metric.

Please be aware when the guy in the video talks about the 2nd 30 degree cut in the longer leg he says 30 inches from the first 30 degree cut it’s actually 38inches.

Hi @RichardC,

Thank you for your post and welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community it is wonderful to have you with us.

I have put the bench together in rendering software based on the video and created something you should be able to use. Note that I have converted everything from imperial to metric to make it as easy as possible.

Start by purchasing 4 x 2.4m lengths of 190 x 45mm H3 Treated Pine and a box of 75mm galvanised batten screws.

Cut two of your lengths of timber in half. You will now have 4 x 1.2m lengths that will make up the backrest and bench on the seat.

On one of the remaining 2.4m lengths of 190x45 you will make a 30° cut along the blue line in the below image.

Measure from the point of the angle 965mm along the board and cut at the same 30° angle. Repeat this twice so you have two timbers of this shape and length.

I have marked the measurements for the next cut in the next photo. Make this cut on both of these timbers.

On your remaining 2.4m length of 190x45, make a 40° cut.

From the sharp point measure down 483mm and make a 45° cut. Repeat the exact same cuts so you have two of these timbers.

You will have the following pieces ready to assemble.

Take the piece that will act as your support for your backrest and make a line between the points I have shown.

Take the cross piece and place it on this line ensuring the 45° cut is facing up and the bottom of the legs will both touch the ground on the same line. You can use a scap piece of timber to line them up. Screw them together.

Start by placing one of the 1.2m pieces so it sits 30mm in front of the sharp point of the supporting leg. Screw this piece to both legs.

You'll then screw the second bench piece behind this one with a gap of 3-5mm for expansion. You can then attach the two remaining pieces to act as a backrest and voila, you are all done.
