How do I prime new gate?

Hi.  I have purchased this new gate from Bunnings.  Its Cypress Pine.  I want to repaint this entire area with Dulux Weathershield to match the new Colourbond fence.  Do I need to paint the gate with a primer first?  If so, what should I use?  Thanks for any help. Caro

Re: How do I prime new gate?

Hi @Caro,

Hope you are staying safe and well.

Priming is usually advised before painting most surfaces as it creates a layer that paint can better adhere to. It can often save you time and money, and help ensure a better finish. In the case of painting wood, primer can help fill in the grain and create a smooth surface for the subsequent coat(s). For your new gate I would choose Dulux 1-Step Oil Based Primer Sealer Undercoat.

I'm sure that Workshop community members would be happy to share other painting tips, and there's also a lot of how-to information on painting in the D.I.Y. advice section of the Bunnings website that you might find useful.

Looking forward to seeing your completed gate project.

Jason
