Hi, we’re starting redoing our deck and noticed that due to the different levels of the astroturf area beside the deck? There’s some parts of the deck that’s really close to the ground and some parts where it’s not and it looks like soil should be coming through. How can I retain the soil with my deck upgrade?
I am planning to keep the bearers and joists of the existing deck but am looking at changing the fascia board adjacent to the grass. Thanks!
Hi @alantis,
I'd suggest attaching some H4 timber to the back of the posts to retain the earth.
Depending on availability in your area, you could use either H4 edging or H4 sleepers.
You could screw the timber to the back of the posts, drive two hardwood stakes into the ground behind the timber at equal spacing, then screw the timber to the stakes. This will utilise the strength of the posts and prevent bowing in the middle of the span.
Let me know what you think and if you have further questions, please don't hesitate to ask.
