Hi, I’m hoping to get some advice on how best to fit a gutter and spouting onto my pergola and feed into the existing downpipe.
Hi @saffa1,
Thank you for your question about installing a gutter on your pergola.
You'll have to start by installing a fascia board where I have indicated above.
You could then attach your Gutter Clips to the fascia board and hang the gutter with the fall towards the arrow.
You would then have to install a downpipe pop to connect a pipe to route it to the existing downpipe.
The downpipe looks like a custom powder-coated Steel Downpipe. It could be a Colorbond colour such as Nightsky, but I am not 100% sure.
Unfortunately, steel downpipes are not made with angled connectors like PVC pipe is rather, they are cut and bent on site to fit the requirements. Unless you were confident, I would consider having a roofing plumber connect the downpipes for you.
Allow me to tag @Nailbag and @Dave-1 for their thoughts.
Let me know if you have further questions.
Jacob
Hi @saffa1
@JacobZ is spot on with the process. However though you can install and paint the facia board, you may not legally be able to install the guttering and down pipe. This work may need to be completed by a licensed plumber which can vary state to state. at the very least one is required in all states in order to do the final connection to the storm water.
Based on that, you might be best to get a plumber anyway as your don't have a big job by the looks, so it should be a relatively cheap exercise. Plus they will have all the specialised tools to do the job. Some might even install the facia for you. Just get a couple of quotes for comparison.

Good Evening @saffa1
I am in agreement with @JacobZ and @Nailbag
It would be easy and rewarding putting a facia and guttering, only probelm is connecting into your existing downpipe. I havnt even modified my downpipes (Need a kink in the bottom to go into my drain pits) and I would class that as easy. Unless you are proficient with tin metal work I would head towards a guttering instal person, as @Nailbag has mentioned it may be worthwhile seeing what the difference in quoting between you doing facia/guttering and getting someone to do the downpipe work.
Dave
Thanks for the insights gents.
I bit the bullet and had a crack, no facia board I just fastened gutter brackets to the ends of the rafters, had to use a 50mm gutter pop into pvc pipe and then managed to cut a hole for another gutter pop at a 45 into the downpipe without destroying the downpipe lol. Siliconed it all up and bobs your uncle.
from what I could find, don’t need licensed plumber if connecting to storm water above ground.
P.S.
thanks to the knowledgeable customers in store for their advice
Afternoon @saffa1
Nice work and I bet you are waiting for rain! Or have you tested it with a hose? lol
Dave
I certainly have tested it with a hose, no leaks which is a relief but the next shower will be the real test.
