This is an existing fence, how would I do screening? Or it's better to replace the fence?
Hi @oki,
Thank you for your question about creating some privacy with screening on your chain link fence.
In its current state, your chain-link fence isn't ideal for screening due to its low height. We could utilise the existing fence as a support structure, but it would never be quite as strong as a new fence with taller posts.
A relatively simple solution would be to attach some tall stakes or star pickets to the existing posts, then run screening between them. You could attach some Growies 50 x 50 x 1800mm Hardwood Garden Stakes to the existing fence posts with U-bolts. You can then run some more tightly packed Bamboo Screening between the stakes, attaching them with zip ties.
The alternative to this is to coordinate with your neighbour to have a taller, more solid timber paling fence installed. In most places, neighbouring property owners share equal responsibility for the cost, construction, and maintenance of a boundary fence, provided it is considered “sufficient” for the area and use of the land. If one owner wants a higher standard of fence, they generally pay the extra cost. If you would like to explore the option of replacing the fence, then I would suggest you start by researching what obligations you have in your local council area.

Good Morning @oki
I have watched a LOT of videos on people weaving, placing timber palings aggaainst a chain fence like yours. Some look brilliant and also look like they will last. Others not so much.
So the question I have, do you want it to be a screen for casual viewing (stopping of)
Or a screen so doggos cant see and "talk" to each other?
The timber palings would work if you have a decent rope knotting ability. So every paling you tie to the top rail and bottom rail with a gap for the pmetal posts. The tieing off would have to be tight and consistant, kind of like a weave knot for tidying cables.
A mixture of @JacobZ 's idea and this one could also work.
Vertical palings against the fence. With the rails on the other side of the msh (top and bottom) and screwed through from the paling side into the rail. The mesh is supporting the rail. I am not 100% sure that it wouldnt wobble but it would create a tighter screen. I would overlap the palings that will line up with the metal posts.
Anything high such as a 1.8m fence wether timber or metal I would suggest to save your money and talk to the neighbours for a replacemnt fence.
