How to adjust pool gate hinges?

Hi,

I have two gates to my pool area that need adjusting to self close, but I'm unsure as to how to do this. Can anyone provide me with some advice please? They self close from wide open but not from a partially open position. I need to get them working to pass a pool safety inspection.

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's marvellous to have you joins us, and thank you for sharing your question about adjusting your pool gate hinges.

Looking at the photos you posted, it seems that your gate hinge's adjustment points are possibly located under the round cover caps with the horizontal lines going across them. It could also be that those cover caps are the actual adjustment points. Unfortunately, the tempered glass door is in the way barring you from making any changes to the gates tension.

This is a repair that requires know how and experience, I suggest engaging the services of a swimming pool fence specialist in your area. Incorrectly removing the tempered glass door could cause it to crack and shatter, poor handling and bad storage can also contribute to its demise. It can also cause injury and pose a hazard for anyone walking around the area.

Having it done professionally means that you are covered as the gate was adjusted by a registered trade. Should the inspector find any fault with the gate a report will often be generated, and you can bring this up with your fence specialist. Once all the points in the report have been addressed you can then submit it for re-evaluation.
