Hello, can you please provide some information on attaching Ekodeck Castellated Panel to a Colourbond Good Neighbor Fence. We are looking to increase the height of the existing fence and cover. How high above the existing fence can the Ekodeck Castellated Panel sit unsupported? How can the panels be attached to the existing fence? Thank you
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @KazDav. It's wonderful to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about attaching panels to a fence.
When attaching Ekodeck Castellated Panels to an existing Colorbond Good Neighbor Fence, it’s important to keep in mind that Colorbond fencing, including its posts and footers, isn’t designed to bear additional weight. Extending the height of the fence will increase wind loads, which could strain the structure. While the fence might physically support more weight, it’s not designed for that purpose, so additional support is important.
The Ekodeck Castellated Panels are 219mm wide and should be fixed at 600mm intervals for proper support. These panels are not designed to sit unsupported, as they’re a composite material that can warp or distort in extreme temperatures when not properly supported.
To install the panels, I recommend setting up standalone posts in front of your Colorbond fence. You’ll then need to build a frame that attaches to those posts and supports the Ekodeck panels at the required 600mm intervals. This will ensure stability and that the panels are fixed securely in place.
For more detailed instructions on fixing the panels, you can refer to the installation guide, which will outline the best practices for attaching the panels and providing the necessary support.
