How to build Ekodeck panel screening over retaining wall?

I would like to build a screen on top of my concrete sleeper retaining wall. It needs to be 1.8 meters high as it will be the boundary fence for a pool area.

I would like to use these panels

Ekodeck 219 x 26mm 3.6m Carbon Batten Screen Castellated Panel

Question is what is the best way to support the screen on top of the retaining wall?

It will be up against an existing colorbond fence,  but the fence is only 1m height in the lowest section, i am building the retaining wall in front of the fence, as close as possible.

Re: Carbon Batten Screen Castellated Panel On Top Of Retaining Wall

Hi @RustyF,

The best approach is to create a separate supporting structure for the screen.

You can either install posts secured directly into the soil with concrete footings in front of the retaining wall, or potentially connect posts to the retaining wall or its existing posts. However, connecting to the retaining wall needs careful consideration, and you’ll likely require an engineer to approve a method that won’t compromise the wall’s structural integrity while supporting the screen.

The simplest and safest option is to allow about 200mm of space in front of the retaining wall to install posts with proper concrete footings. This gives you enough room to create stable footings spaced to suit the panel size and ensures your screen is safely supported without impacting the retaining wall.

Remember that, as this is part of your pool fence, it will likely need to be signed off and certified. Best to check with your local council first to ensure the structure you create to support the panels complies with regulations.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Mitchell
