How to build a corrugated roof over two containers?

I have two 40 containers positioned beside each other 5 meters apart. I would like to construct a roof over the area, with Zinc Corrugated sheets. The span is 5 x 12meters what timber and how much timber do I need, without posts as I will be securing it to the top of two containers

I'm sorry but I'm just confused about the size of the water containers. Would it be possible for you to post a photo how the water containers are positioned. This will give our members a chance to assess how big they are and how they are positioned. We can then make recommendations on how to install the roof.

It sounds like you have two 40ft shipping containers spaced five metres apart and would like a roof to extend between them. Five metres is a substantial distance for a single piece of timber to span, and typically, you'd have a post midway. You'd be right on the max span of using 140 x 45mm timber, and it would likely be best to move up to 190 x 45mm due to this. Typically, sheeting purlins should not be spaced further apart than 1200mm, so you'd need ten lengths of 190 x 45mm at least 5000mm long.

I would like to prepare a list of materials for this build and purchase all the material from Bunning in Shepparton Victoria

so 10 190 x 45 would that be lvl’s

then I would require rafters maybe 90 x 35

I was also wanting to use top plates secured to both shipping containers fastened with bolts. One side higher for water run off what size top plates are best? For fall. The Purlins would then be batten screwed into top plate

i would also need the Zinc roofing with some laser lite sheets for lighting but good UV protection

My apologies for misunderstanding your query. Before you make a list of materials I recommend engaging the services of a draughts person. They will be able to draw a plan that takes into account any rules and regulations your local council might have.

Because of the size of the structure, I recommend checking your local councils' rules and regulations regarding building a roofing structure over your shipping containers. I suspect that a building approval might be needed, which means that you'll need a certified plan from a draughts person.

The plan will also cover the type of screws and fixings you'll need. Plus, how the roof will be secured to your shipping containers. They will also be able to make recommendations regarding the span issue.

Due to the size of your proposed order, I suggest applying for a PowerPass account if you are a trades person. I highly recommend speaking to your local store's "Trade Specialist", they will be able to handle large orders and organize delivery for you. They can serve as the single point of contact for you in the store making it convenient for you to change your order or shift delivery dates.
