How to build a deck with timber posts or galvanised posts?

Hi, I am planning to build a deck on the garden bed. Two questions:

1- Shall I use timber posts or Galvanised Anchor Full Stirrup Post

which keeps the bearers outside the ground?

2- What is the gap between the posts or Galvanised Anchor Full Stirrup Post?

When planning to build a deck, using galvanised post anchors is generally a better choice than timber posts in the ground. Galvanised anchors keep the posts elevated above the ground, which helps to prolong the life of the timber by preventing moisture from causing decay and rot. By concreting in anchors, you create a stable foundation that can withstand various weather conditions and ground movement, ensuring your deck remains secure over time.

Regarding the spacing between the posts, this largely depends on the size of the timber you’re using for the bearers or joists. For instance, if you opt for 140 x 45mm timber, spacing the posts between 1200mm and 1800mm apart is appropriate. This distance allows for adequate support while also maintaining structural integrity. The exact spacing can vary based on the load your deck will bear, such as whether it will hold furniture, heavy planters, or if you plan to entertain on it frequently.

It’s also important to consider local building codes and regulations, as these may dictate specific requirements for post spacing and load-bearing capacities. Additionally, if you plan to use composite decking or larger timber sizes, you might need to adjust the spacing accordingly to ensure the deck's overall stability and safety.
