Hey Guys,
I want to build a security gate on the side access of the house to the fence. It’s about 9m wide. I’m thinking of building fence on both sides and hang a gate in the middle so not to have a long spanning gate. I want to ask if I can bolt the post to brick wall of the house.
Also, any other ideas would be appreciated.
thanks
Hi @randomdiy,
A warm welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community, it is fantastic to have you with us.
Is it possible to grab some photos of the side access so our members get a better picture of what you're working with?
Let me know if you need a hand with this. I am happy to assist with uploading photos if required.
Assuming the brick is in good condition and the adjacent post is concreted in, then yes, you should be fine to bolt a post to your brick wall. You'll want to make sure the post is bolted with suitably long fixings at no more than 600mm spacing along the full height of the post.
With a span of 9 metres, you will definitely need to build a fence. You can grab a RapidFence 1800 x 1870mm Grey Large Steel Adjustable Gate Frame Kit for your gate, which would leave around 7.2 metres that would need to be filled in by a fence.
You might like to check out the series on How To Build a Fence for guidance on the process.
Let me know what you think and if you have further questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

Thank you Jacob for your prompt and helpful reply.
i have attached a photo with scribble on.
P= post
G= gate
F=fence.
I was wondering if I would break any rule if I bolt P to the brickwall or I have to build an adjacent brick structure and bolt P to that.
thanks again…
best regards
Hi @randomdiy,
No, no rules state that you can't do this.
Everything looks in order for you to get stuck in.
Let me know if you need any help moving forward.
