How to build a metal planter with trellis?

Hi everyone,

I’d love to build a metal planter with a trellis (like in the picture), but I’m a total beginner and have no idea where to start.

Could anyone please suggest:

  • The materials I’ll need (ideally from Bunnings)
  • Simple step-by-step instructions

I’d like it to be full metal, sturdy, and not too complicated for a first-time DIYer.

Any advice would mean a lot — thanks!

Re: How to build a metal planter with trellis?

Hello @Accomplished_B

Is this a Bunnings product? If you have seen it on the Bunnings website, please let me know where you found it by using a link or a product number so that I can track it down for you.

If it is not a Bunnings product, it is possible to emulate the look by using a Northcote Pottery 98cm Grey Savannah Planter and a Jack Matrix 1800 x 900 x 6mm Smooth Cream Reeded Square Lattice along with a Jack Matrix 1815 x 915 x 28mm Charcoal C-Channel Frame Kit. The frame of the Matrix panel will need to be screwed onto the planter's body or frame.

The store does not carry pre-pressed steel panels to build this from scratch. However, you can build it from timber, I suggest having a look at this featured discussion - Hardwood and mesh trellis with planter boxes by @DIY4Knuckleheds

If you need further assistance, please let us know.

Eric
