How to build a timber ramp?

Hi,

I am wanting to build a timber ramp at the side of my house and not sure what materials to use and what incline I need.

The height of existing concrete slab is 200mm high

The width is 1200m.

The length I am thinking is around 1800/2000 long.

Is that length enough to get a decent incline?

What products would I use and how would I get the incline correct?

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @AmyJ02. It's a pleasure to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about constructing a ramp.

A gradient of 1:10 would typically be compliant for a height of 200mm and a length of 2000mm. It's best to check any local regulations, though.

I've created a rendering below using 90 x 45mm H3 treated timber and an 18mm thick board. Hopefully, it gives you an idea of how you could construct the ramp. The long angular cuts are likely the hardest part. You could perhaps do away with them if you create several chocks of the correct height migrating down the ramp.

As the H3-treated timber will be in contact with the ground, it would be best to paint any contact point with bitumen paint to help avoid decay.
