hello,
I have an area in which I would like to apply some artificial grass.
I have watched the Bunnings videos with regards to this and have compiled a list of materials that I need.
I need to get 60-70mm of crushed gravel (they come in 20kg bags) and 20mm of crusher dust (also in 20kg bags).
The space that this is required for is 3900mm in length and 3804mm in width - I’m not sure how to calculate how many bags of these materials that I need for this area?
is anyone able to assist me with this?
thank you in advance!
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @fern01. It's a pleasure to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about calculating materials for your artificial grass base.
To cover an area of 3900mm x 3804mm, your total area is approximately 14.83m². If you're laying 70mm (0.07m) of gravel, that’s roughly 1.038m³ of material. A standard 20kg bag of crushed gravel usually covers around 0.0125m³, so you’d need about 83 bags for the gravel.
For the 20mm (0.02m) layer of crusher dust, that works out to about 0.297m³, which would be around 24 bags.
Just keep in mind that these numbers are rough estimates — it’s always a good idea to allow a bit extra for compaction and any variation in your base levels.
It would be best to speak with our Special Order team in-store to see if we can bulk-deliver, as it's more budget-friendly, especially for the crushed gravel.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
