How to clean brick paving?

I successfully cleaned some of our brick paving in our patio area with a high pressure hose but I’m struggling to clean some other areas with more stubborn stains? Any ideas please?

Re: cleaning brick paving

Hi @emmawigg,

Are you also using a detergent and can you provide info about the make/model of the pressure washer.

Thanks

Re: How to clean brick paving?

Hi @emmawigg,

As Alan has mentioned, when you’re dealing with stubborn stains on brick paving, a chemical cleaner can often make the biggest difference. Something like 30 Seconds Outdoor Pavement Cleaner is a good starting point, as it is designed to help remove mould, mildew, and general grime that a pressure washer alone might not shift.

It’s also important to identify what type of staining you’re dealing with. Is it moss or mildew, oil from a vehicle, or something else? That can affect which cleaning method will work best. I noticed in your photo there is a very clear line along the brick courses between the cleaner area and the stained section. Do you know if that area was laid at a different time, or why it might be older or more exposed? That could explain why the staining follows the brick pattern so neatly.

Start with the chemical cleaner first, following the instructions carefully, and then use your pressure washer if needed. If the stains persist, you may need to increase the pressure on the washer, but chemical treatment is usually the safest and most effective first step for brick paving.

There are also surface cleaner heads for pressure washers, which can be quite effective on paving.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Mitchell
