How to create an outdoor gym in the garden setting?

Hi - I’m new to the group so hopefully this is an ok question to ask.  I’d like to put a small home gym into our backyard garden - see attached picture.  I’m thinking it needs waterproof roof and maybe cafe type side walls.

I’d welcome any ideas please !

Hi @jpmc,

A warm welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community, it is fantastic to have you with us.

It sounds like you're looking to build a roofed structure with some bistro blinds to keep the driving rain out so you can set up your gym equipment below.

How big a space are you looking to create?

Depending on the size of the space, you may need to check with your local council what their rules are regarding permanent structures like a pergola or gazebo. It's always best to be confident you are in line with your local council's regulations.

You'll have to start by clearing the soil so you can add a floor for the gym. You could lay pavers to create a hard surface for your gym.

You'd then need to concrete in some posts, attach beams between the posts and rafters between those beams. As it is outdoors, you'd need to use H4 posts and H3 framing for the structure.

You could then attach some polycarbonate roofing to the structure and add your bistro blinds to close it in.

It's a bit of work, but certainly achievable.

Let me know what you think.

Hi Jacob - thanks so much for the reply.  I think you’ve confirmed what I thought in terms of big picture but super helpful to get your view on the specifics for the structural items eg H4 posts and framing.   Much appreciated !
