Hi I wish to fill / seal around my front door frame. The gap varies from 1 to 15mm in places. I can see the back of a light switch and cable going into it where the gap is widest. I had considered expanding foam but not sure this is the best solution and would likely need to be sealed with some kind of flexible sealant after for a nicer finish. Some portions of the gap are too small for expandable foam in any case.
If you could provide links to appropriate sealant or other relevant products that would be very much appreciated.
Hi @Cathalm8,
For gaps like this, especially where they vary in size, a good approach is to first use foam backing rod (also called filler rod) in the larger gaps. This gives you a surface to fill against, helps control the depth of the sealant, and makes the whole job more manageable.
Once the rod is in place, you can go over both the rod and the smaller gaps using Sikaflex 11FC. It’s a high-performance polyurethane sealant that’s flexible, weather-resistant, and perfect for external use around door frames like yours.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
