How to fill exterior wall gaps?

Have an old home with plastic cladding that has deteriorated and sustained some storm damage. Starting with the front porch, removed it and found this. Pink....very interesting.

Have started removing the nails and filling them with outdoor wood filler. Plan is to paint white and add new window architraves. Add balustrade and retile

Just wanting to know what I should use to fill the cracks between the vertical and the horizontal hardwood weatherboard? Wood filler or silicone? Or something else.

Then what can I do to bridge this gap between the horizontal and vertical. And as you can see, nothing is square in an old house

I suggest using Sika 310ml White Sikaflex Pro+ Polyurethane Sealant on the weatherboard so that it does not crack or split. As for the giant gap I propose filling the gap with Parfix 340g Expanding Foam Filler and covering the gap with a timber trim such as 66 x 18mm 5.4m Moulding H3 Treated Pine FJ Primed Half Splayed 2 LOSP. The remaining gaps on the weatherboard and timber trim can be covered with the Sikaflex sealant.

My suggestions are along the same line as with @EricL. I had to replace quite a few weatherboards at a medical clinic the other week and this is what I used.

For the weatherboard ends scrape away loose or flakey paint. Clean the area with a damp cloth and allow to dry. I use this filler which isn't fast drying so will allow you plenty of time to smooth it over and is water based.

I would use this timber trim to cover the vertical section and use the gap filler down each edge. But if the vertical gap is wider, then go with the trim @EricL suggested.

Also prime coat paint the ends of each piece of timber to extend life.

I really love weatherboard houses, there is something about them I just find appealing. The pink colouring 🙂 Yeah I remember my Grandmothers place haveing those type of colourings 🙂 Love that you are repairing and reusing the boards 🙂

I cant add anything more to @Nailbag 's and @EricL 's suggestions and ways to cover the transition 🙂 So will sit back and wait until you are finished and hope that you put the reno into a project and up in here 🙂 That would be a pretty interesting project. Take lots fo photos even if you never post them, it costs nothing and the history of what you have done can really be helpful.

It matches the pink kitchen that came with the house. And on closer inspection, it appears the window trims would have been purple.

I cannot bring myself to cover them back up. They are still in good condition and I guess being covered for the past 20+ years has helped. It will take some time to get it all done, but one wall at a time.
